Everything You Need to Host the Perfect Holiday Party in 2020

2020 has been a strange year for many reasons, but that shouldn’t stop us from celebrating the holidays (and the end of this weird year) harder than ever. Just because we may be limited in the number of people we can see in-person, doesn’t mean we don’t have to call off the celebrations altogether. Read this week’s Board & Bread blog for a comprehensive guide that provides you with everything you’ll need to throw an awesome holiday bash this year.

Board & Bread specializes in event catering, specifically delectable and unique charcuterie boards of all sizes in Prosper and the surrounding areas. We want to help you make this holiday season an unforgettable one. Hand Sanitizer

Before we get into the fun stuff, let’s not forget the important stuff this year. Because we’re in the middle of a global pandemic, we do need to be mindful of keeping ourselves and those around us safe and healthy this season. No matter how many people are attending your bash this holiday, don’t forget to have some hand sanitizer on-hand to help kill off those nasty germs!

Do keep in mind that some people are at a higher risk, so it’s best to keep your distance and catch-up from afar. It’s also important to be mindful of the size of get-togethers, as many places have specific regulations, including those that limit the number of people you’re allowed to have.

Decorations

Now that we’ve established the importance of cleanliness and extra precautions this year, let’s get on with the fun stuff! What’s more exciting when planning a party than the decorations? Sure, every great party deserves its own set of decorations, but there’s absolutely nothing like decorating for Christmas, so don’t be afraid to go all out! Even if only five people are going to attend your party, you can help to make it all feel a bit more normal by decorating as you would in any other year.

Include lights, garlands, wreaths, delicious-smelling candles, or whatever you please! We recommend picking a theme or color scheme and sticking with it to make choosing decorations a bit simpler. For example, if you’re looking to go more colorful, you’ll know to look for decorations with multi-colored lighting, but if you’re going for a classier look, a solid color scheme may be best.

No matter what you do, don’t forget to deck the halls with plenty of decorations this year and make it fun!

Music

There’s nothing better than being surrounded with the ones you love and listening to some good ol’ Christmas classics. When picking the music for your party, we recommend choosing a Christmas station or making a playlist ahead of time so you won’t have to worry about DJing while you’re in the middle of entertaining. If you’re making a playlist, don’t forget to add a little bit of everything! We also recommend adding enough songs to cover about 4-5 hours, just in case your party runs long.

Entertainment

In order to keep all of your guests engaged throughout the night, we recommend including some form of entertainment in your party plans. The possibilities are truly endless here, but we do have a few ideas — even if your bash will only have a few guests in attendance, you can still make these amusing!

Ugly Sweater Party

If you’re looking for something to lighten the mood this holiday season, opt for an ugly sweater bash this time around. Tell guests when you send out the invitations that they should don their ugliest sweater or getup. If kids are going to be in attendance, be sure to give them a warning and ask that they make their choice of clothing kid-appropriate.

Gift Exchange

This one’s always a classic at holiday parties, and there are many ways to go about it. You could choose to exchange gifts in a Secret Santa-style, where everyone in attendance gets assigned a name beforehand and then buys one gift for the person they were assigned. You can also choose to go the White Elephant/Yankee Swap route where all gifts are fair game for each attendee.

Christmas Charades

Who doesn’t love a good game of charades, especially one that’s Christmas-edition? This easy-to-organize game can be set up during the party, saving you lots of time and stress. Add some holiday flavor to traditional charades by including Christmas-themed words and phrases. The rules are the same as any old game of charades, but keep in mind that these are all festive, holiday-related

Drinks

Every great party needs some delicious drinks. Whether you’re having an adult bash with adult beverages, or you’re having a more family-oriented celebration, there are endless options when it comes to drinks. We recommend browsing Pinterest for some of the cutest (and most delicious) holiday drink recipes that can be made with or without alcohol. Add your own touch to each of these — you can’t ever go wrong with some holiday-related garnishings!

Food

Last, but not least, the pièce de résistance — delicious food. If there’s one thing you should always ensure you have at any holiday party, it’s good food. Board & Bread makes event catering simple with our beautiful and delicious charcuterie boards. We have a wide variety of sizes, so no matter how many people will be in attendance this year, we’ve got you covered with boards from 13” to our Motherboard, which starts at four feet long. We even create custom boards, if needed! Browse our boards page to find a size that’s right for you or reach out to our friendly team in Prosper for some expert advice!
